I'm heartbroken to read the transcript of the last audio recording of Michael Jackson before he died, which was read yesterday during the trial of the Doctor accused of causing his death with a 'perfect storm of drugs'.
Heartbroken because it shows the vulnerability, the drive and the desperation that ultimately brought about his death.
"We have to be phenomenal. When people leave this show, when people leave my show, I want them to say, 'I've never seen nothing like this in my life. Go. Go. I've never seen nothing like this. Go. It's amazing. He's the greatest entertainer in the world'."
Reading this, it is clear that Jackson was as addicted to fame, adoration and perfection as he was to drugs. The doctor who administered the drugs may not have used due care, but what pressure was he under to help Jackson meet his "phenomenal" goal?
The doctor is accused of failing to provide adequate safeguards in his care of Jackson, but really Michael lacked adequate care from everyone around him from a very young age. The music industry; his family; his friends.
Someone should have protected him from being a victim of his phenomenal drive for fame before he turned to his perfect storm of drugs to keep that dream alive.
What do you think? Is the Doctor responsible for Michael's death?
